What are direct payments?

Direct payments are local council payments for people who have been assessed as needing help from social services, and who would like to arrange and pay for their own care and support services instead of receiving them directly from the local council.

Everyone is now offered this option after a social services assessment, and for those people who choose direct payments it will give them greater choice and control over the support they receive.

We can also help in the recruitment of Personal Assistants and setting up Safeguarding, DBS checks and administering payroll and other employment issues.

Kent Card

The Kent Card is a new, secure and convenient way of receiving your Direct Payments for community support and assistance. It is an easy way to pay for your support.

It is a Chip and PIN VISA card which does not need a bank account. You can use it to pay for your support in the same way as using a VISA debit card.

How does it work?

Kent County Council will load your direct payments money onto the card instead of paying it into a bank account. You can pay for social care services:

  • face to face using your PIN number
  • over the internet
  • by telephone

How do I get one?

Contact your Case Manager who will arrange to visit you. We accept Kent card as payment which your Case Manager will be able to confirm.

They will also help you complete the application form. You will need to show some identification documents - this is required as a security check. Then once your pin and account number arrive you are able to start to use it to pay for your care.
